The influence of nutrients and chemical contaminants extend across all scales in space and time. This schematic is a simplified representation of spatial and temporal scales of interest, as illustrated by the distinct scales for Harmful Algal Blooms in thin layers (HABTL) and in extended surface blooms (HABSURFACE).
